Obituary of Peter Duerden Lawson

Peter Duerden Lawson, beloved husband of Hilda, of Calgary passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the age of 81 years. Peter was born in Blackburn, England. He attended Cambridge University where he met Hilda, and graduated in 1948. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 as a young engineer. Peter and Hilda were married in England on September 26, 1953. After ten years in Toronto, where Judith and Jim were born, the family moved to Calgary where Peter became a partner in Reid Crowther and Partners. He served on numerous professional boards including Western Canada Water and Wastewater association both while working and after his retirement in 1987. Peter’s interests were hiking, traveling, square dancing, reading and theatre. He loved the mountains and enjoyed spending time there hiking and skiing. In retirement Peter and Hilda traveled and hiked on all five continents. Peter served as president of Skyline Hikers of the Canadian Rockies from 1995 to 1998. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-five years, Hilda; daughter, Judith (Clyde) Fulton; son, James (Denise); grandchildren, Craig, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Kevin and Janelle; sister, Patricia Macdougall and two nephews in England. A Celebration of Peter’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
