Helen Pollitt

Obituary of Helen Joan Pollitt

Helen Joan Pollitt (nee Jones) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 2, 2009 at the age of 83 years. Helen was born in 1925 in Liverpool England. Her childhood experiences developed her determination and sense of humour to help her family overcome the challenges of the times. She married Tom Pollitt in 1950 and together they had two children, Bill and Eve. In 1967 they left behind family and friends and immigrated to Canada. The first winter was hard but by the end of it we had all settled in. In 1973 Helen restarted her formal education that had stopped in 1939. She completed her BFA at the U of C in 1981. This opened the door to more of the opportunities promised by the new land. With their sense of humour and determination, they enjoyed it all. Helen’s passion was art and painting and she was still painting and teaching until she became ill last year. Helen will forever be in the hearts of Bill, Eve, Marie, Siân, Samantha, Len, Peter, Ken, Jack and Norma. Her husband Tom predeceased her in 1999. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Drive S.W.) on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Helen Pollitt, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.
