Obituary of Russell Clifton Smith

Russell Clifton Smith of Calgary passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the glorious age of 100 years. Born and raised in Lockwood, Saskatchewan, Russ homesteaded at Choiceland before moving throughout Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia, finally settling in Calgary in 2000 to be near his family. Russ will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Peg Smith and Gloria (Lloyd) Robinson of Calgary; grandsons, Robert Smith, Russell (Michelle) Smith and Tyler (Tracy) Robinson; great-grandchildren, Jack, Kate, Marc, Maya and a soon to be born fifth great-grandchild; brothers, Ray (Sylvia) and Loyd (Irene); sisters, Isla and Ellen; and many relatives and friends who treasured him dearly. He was predeceased by his wife Annie in 1957; his second wife Elsie in 1986; his son Donald in 1987; and his brothers, Jim, Dale and Paul. Russ lived a full life on his own terms and will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. A Celebration of Russ’ Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the Chinook Care Centre for the excellent care and attention they provided to Russ during the two and a half years he called the Centre home.
