Obituary of Edith Lilian Broadhurst

It is with a sad heart that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother, Edith Lilian Broadhurst of Calgary who passed away on January 22, 2009 at the age of 90 years. One of six children, Lilian was born on February 21, 1918 in Salford, England. On April 8, 1939 she married Samuel and would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this coming April. During the depressed years of 1956 and 1957, Lilian and Sam made the selfless and courageous decision to move the family to Canada to seek a better life for their children. In 1957 they moved their family to Toronto, ON and later on moved to Kelowna, BC then to Revelstoke, BC, before settling in Calgary, where they have resided for the last thirty years. Lilian was a tender, loving mother who was always positive and helpful in every way. She touched the lives of so many people with her gentle, kind, and generous nature. Ballroom dancing was one of her early favourite pastimes and with Sam, won many competitions. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and travelling, but her greatest pleasure was gatherings with family and friends who loved her dearly. Lilian is survived and will be deeply missed by her loving husband Samuel; sons, Mel, Neil (Jeannie) and Derek (Shirley); daughters, Pamela and Elizabeth (Gerry); six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; as well as her sister-in-law, Amy (brother Eric) and other extended family and friends in England and Australia. A Memorial Service will be held at the Bethany Care Centre, Link Auditorium (5th floor, 916 – 18A Street N.W.) on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
