Obituary of Elsie May Dart

It is with great sadness that we announce that Elsie May Dart passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the age of 87 years after a short but heroic battle with cancer. Born in Hanna, AB, Elsie lived most of her years in the Drumheller area. After completing high school in Drumheller, she spent time studying to become a nurse in Edmonton. She then returned to Drumheller where she worked for a number of years for Dr. Kinderchuk. She married John Dart in 1949. The couple enjoyed many years farming land near the town of Rosedale, where they raised their son Rick. During this time, Elsie was an active member of the Verdant Valley Home and School Association. John and Elsie moved to Drumheller in the early 1970s, where she remained for the rest of her life. With a keen sense of humour and a genuine interest in all types of people, Elsie was a welcome presence at all social gatherings. Her interests included following current events, doing crossword puzzles, and learning about new cultures. She was admired for her ability to adapt to change and for the way she accepted and respected all people. Elsie is survived by her daughter-in-law Pam Dart (nee Ball); granddaughters, Bre-Ann and Christie; nephew Don Dart (Adrienne); niece Margaret Boldt; and the Torfason, Ball, and Boyer families; as well as by numerous extended family members and friends. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Anna Balmforth; sisters Edna Torfason and Marion McLay; husband John Dart; and son Rick Dart. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff in the Acute Care wing of the Drumheller Hospital, that provided tender care and allowed her to maintain her dignity.
