Obituary of John Wilson Petrie

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce that our dear friend, J. Wilson Petrie passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009 at the age of 65 years. Wilson was born in Halifax, NS on February 21, 1943 and moved to Calgary, AB at three months of age and resided here ever since. He was a lifelong resident of the Summer Village of Gull Lake, AB. Wilson worked at the Calgary Juvenile Detention Center at the William Roper Hull Home, The Albertan Newspaper, and finished his career as Chief Orderly at the Court of Queen’s Bench and the Court of Appeal. His volunteer work consisted of ten years with the Calgary Stampede, the downtown YMCA Sharks competitive swim club, and the AIDS Calgary Awareness Association. Wilson was a long time member of the Glencoe Club Wilson is survived by his cousins, Sydney Gardave and Grant Smith (Paula) and their families; companion Brad Resvick; and special friends, Shae Couston, Laura Senicki, Darrell Taylor, Glenna Robinson, Barrie Steinson, and Vegas the cat. Wilson was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Mary Petrie. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Brad and Wilson would like to thank Wilson’s cousins Ralph Smith and Suzie Grant for their kindness and support during the length of Wilson’s illness as well as Lorne Lisowski, Lance Lisowski, Christopher Malcovish, and Catherine Miles for their support. Special thanks to Elizabeth Crosbie for her many kind thoughts and long time friendship. The family and Brad would like to also thank Kathy Kindopp-Bugo, Palliative Home Care RN, and the staff at the Rockyview General Hospital, Unit 47 for everything they have done to make Wilson’s life as comfortable as they could in his later days. To all those who have not been named, you are not forgotten.
