Obituary of Johann Hans Reitbauer

Hans, beloved husband of Margaret, father of Robert, Richard and Timothy passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Sunday, January 25, 2009. Born in Mauthausen, Austria, Hans immigrated to Canada in 1952 and met his loving wife Margaret. They were married and soon after blessed with the arrival of their first son Robert Kurt Reitbauer. Robbie was taken from them much too early in a tragic skiing accident in 1967. Hans and Marg then celebrated the arrival of two more sons, Richard and Timothy. A cabinet maker by trade, he worked at the City of Calgary Electrical System for thirty-five years. His friends at work knew him as “John” or Hans and respected his work as a power lineman, foreman and manager. Hans combined his love of sport and children by volunteering over thirty years of his time to ski racing and the Skimeisters of Calgary. He was affectionately known as the “old man of the mountains” on the ski hill. Hans touched many lives and was looked up to by countless individuals as a second father. To his immediate family, he was the best a wife, son or grandchild could hope for. Hans is survived by his loving wife Margaret; sons Richard (Carol) and Timothy (Launa); and grandchildren, Matthew, Kenadie and Cassidy. Funeral Services will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church (1432 – 19th Street N.E.) on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
