Elizabeth Rose Libby Miles

Obituary of Elizabeth Margaret Rose Libby Miles

Elizabeth Miles, beloved wife of Mervyn Miles of Calgary, passed away after a two year battle with cancer on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the age of 68 years. Libby was born in Winnipeg and after completing Grade twelve at Churchill High School she entered the Winnipeg General Hospital School Of Nursing from which she graduated as a RN in 1962. She then went to work at the Shrine Hospital. She and Mervyn married in July of 1963 and they lived in the Crestview area of Winnipeg. In 1971 the family moved to the Barrhaven area of Ottawa and, with three children, Lib became a full time mother. She loved to walk in the Gatineau Hills, cross-country ski, and ski-jour with the family husky. She also found time to attend the University of Ottawa. After ten years in Ottawa, the family moved to Calgary. Lib’s children were very active in hockey and lacrosse so she spent innumerable hours driving to rinks, fund raising, and watching and cheering on her children from PEI to Vancouver. In Calgary Lib loved to hike, and generally enjoy the mountains. Since 2001, Lib and Merv spent their winters in Arizona where Lib loved to hike in the desert and mountains. Lib is survived by her husband Mervyn; her four children, Cheryl Coulthard (Alex), Sandy Nixon (Kevin), Craig Miles, and Valerie Miles; her sister Barbara; as well as six grand-children. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Chinook Hospice whose empathy, attention and care made Lib’s final days as comfortable as possible. A public service will not be held and the family asks that her friends and acquaintances remember Lib in their own way. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
