Obituary of Douglas Edward Betts

Doug Betts of Calgary passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Doug was born on February 3, 1923 in Deloraine, MB. The family moved to Rochester, AB in 1929. Doug enlisted in the air force at the age of 18, receiving his pilot’s wings and serving his country for three years. While on furlough in Calgary, Doug met the love of his life, Doreen. They married and settled in Banff in 1945. Doug worked with Brewster Auto Service and later with the Federal Government as manager of the Supply and Service district office, until his retirement in 1978. Doug loved to play golf, travel, work in his garden and spend time with his grandchildren. Doug is survived by his loving son Don and daughter-in-law Jane; and his three cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Dan and Brian. He is also survived by his brother, Ken (Theresa); sister Georgina; as well as many extended family members. Doug was predeceased by his wife Doreen, his parents and his brother, Murray. Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #264, 1910 Kensington Rd NW on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
