Obituary of Audrey Lucy Gillies

Audrey L. Gillies of Calgary, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2009 at the age of 99 years. Mrs. Gillies born Audrey Lucy Davey in Torquay, Devon, England on August 23, 1909. The family, her parents and sister Dorothy immigrated to Canada. Her brother Frank was born in Montreal in 1922. Audrey attended business school in Montreal. In 1933, she met and married Stewart Gillies, an advertising executive from Ontario. They had one child, their son Robert. For many years, the family resided in various Canadian cities until Stewart’s retirement and subsequent death. At that time, Audrey relocated from Victoria, BC to Calgary to be close to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister and nieces. For the past five years, Audrey made Trinity Lodge her home, where she played an active role in lodge activities and community events. She was a popular figure at the retirement residence and with her winning smile was featured in the Trinity Lodge promotional brochure. Mrs. Gillies is survived by her son Robert Gillies of Atlanta, GA, nieces Pamela (Bill) Varga of Calgary, Gerri (Bob) Perry of Vernon, BC, daughter-in-law Beth Wolff of Calgary, grandsons Gordon (Kandi McElary) and Scott Gillies of Calgary, granddaughter Carol Trotter (Dan) of Summerland, BC, great grandchildren Liam and Laura Gillies of Calgary, and Kelly and Beau Trotter of Summerland, BC. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Miv Simister of Surrey, BC. In accordance with Audrey’s wishes, Private Services were held. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
