Obituary of Ruth Donalda Fisher

Ruth D. Fisher of Calgary passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the age of 92 years, just short of her 93rd birthday. She was raised in Readlyn, SK and received her Teaching Certificate in Saskatchewan, then taught in Maple Creek, SK before moving to Calgary in 1944. In Calgary, she attended Henderson?s Secretarial School, receiving an Honour Certificate in 1946. Ruth went to work for Fairbanks Morris. Later, she joined the Reserves, working in the supply depot. As a Reserve, she reached the rank of Sergeant Major and earned Marksmanship awards for her shooting. After leaving the Reserves, Ruth attended the University of Calgary, and received her teaching degree and taught elementary school classes until her retirement. Ruth had a real zest for life and some of her many accomplishments were oil painting, clogging, drumming, singing and acting. Her love of music took her to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was a choir member and also sang with other singing groups. Her biggest love was the Grand Ole Follies, where she sang and performed with the many friends she acquired over the years. She will be truly missed by her family and friends, she was a very special lady. Ruth was always a very independent, caring lady with a generous heart and spirit. A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
