Obituary of Henry Schmidt

Henry Schmidt of Cochrane, AB passed away into the presence of his Saviour and Lord on December 28, 2008, at the age of 73 years. Henry was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1948 at the age of 13. In 1958 he entered the teaching profession and taught for the Calgary Board of Education until his retirement in 1993. Coming out of retirement in 1996, he and his wife spent a year in Vienna, Austria, teaching at the Vienna Christian School. Shortly after their return, he was diagnosed with a rare disease known as amyloidosis. Recently he was diagnosed with cancer, to which he succumbed peacefully with his wife and children around him. Henry was known for his quiet, gentle manner, his wit and humour, his giving heart, and his tremendous love for God. Henry leaves to mourn his loving wife of forty-four years, Marion; daughter Heather and her husband Sean Morin; son Darren and his wife Cara; and grandchildren Matthew, Aimee, and Jeremy; brother Len and his wife Helen; sister Frieda and her husband Jake Neufeld, and sister Lilly Polnau; as well as many other relatives and friends.
