Obituary of Reinhold Przeczek

Reinhold Przeczek beloved husband of Herta of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Reinhold was born in Sternberg, Czechoslovakia. Reinhold immigrated to Canada in 1940 and homesteaded in the Tupper Creek/Tomslake area of British Columbia. He enlisted in the Canadian army in 1941 and served first as a shooting instructor and later, while overseas, with the Canadian Intelligence Service. After returning to Canada, Reinhold married Herta Mayer on September 14, 1946. Shortly thereafter he joined the Calgary Police Service becoming the first officer of non-British decent to be hired by the service. After rising through the ranks, Reinhold retired as an inspector on May 28, 1978 with thirty-two years of service. Never one to let the grass grow under his feet, Reinhold was active with the Calgary Highlanders, the International Police Association and the Calgary Police Veterans Association. He also travelled extensively, played a mean game of bridge, and volunteered as a White Hatter at the Calgary International Airport. Loving him and missing him are Herta, his wife of 62 years; his daughter Mary Ann; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Corrinne de Zoete of Cranbrook, BC; his granddaughters, Kara of Prince George, BC and Nicola of Edmonton, AB; and his stepbrother Frank Richter of Calgary, AB.
