Obituary of Ellen Walker
Nell Walker of Calgary passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Nell was born in Southwalk, London, England and served in WWII where she met her husband Sam in the RAF. After the war they immigrated to Canada with their new family settling in Toronto. Here in Canada Sam re-enlisted with the RCAF which had their family stationed in Calgary, France and Edmonton. After her beloved husbands passing Nell moved back to Calgary in 1982 to be closer to family. Nell was a member of the Burma Star Association, Royal Canadian Legion and spent many years as a member of the Calgary Music Makers Senior Citizen’s Choir. Nell was affectionately known as “Nana” by her rather large extended family; she will be deeply missed. Nell is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-laws Lesley Walker and John Ehlers and Debi Walker and Bob Charters; five grandchildren Helen, Maria, Kevin, Samantha and Jeremy (Karen); eleven great-grandchildren, Nicole, Jennifer, Cody, Chloe, Taylor, Brianna, Tessa, Holly, Peyton, Ian and Annie; one great-great grandchild Emma; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Lil Bottomley; nephew Michael (Irene) Bottomley and family all of London, England and many good friends at Bethany Village. Nell was predeceased by her devoted husband Sam “Ginger” in 1981 and loving son Jeff in 1994. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at the Sarcee Hospice and Peter Lougheed Hospital Unit 44 for their outstanding care for Nell.
