Obituary of Charles B. Newmarch
Chuck Newmarch beloved husband of Beverly of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at the age of 89 years.
Chuck was born in Whitehorse, Y.T., and grew up in Victoria, B.C. He took his undergraduate in Geological Engineering at U.B.C., and received his Masters and PhD in Geology from Princeton, N.J. One of Chuck’s great achievements was the mapping of the geology of the Crowsnest Coal Basin. This knowledge led to the establishment of the first open pit mine in the Crowsnest Pass. His work experience included time with Standard Oil Co. of California in Calgary and Regina, Total Petroleum and Westmin Resources. Chuck was the Past-President and member of The Alberta Society of Petroleum Geologists and former President of Calgary Family Services. After his retirement, Chuck volunteered with CESO in Columbia, Ireland and India. He was a long standing member of the Downtown Rotary, Glencoe Club and Earl Grey Golf Course. Chuck never lost his passion for geology and continued to prospect for gold and diamonds in B.C. into his retirement.
Chuck will be lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-three years Bev; his sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Cathie Newmarch of Calgary, and Dr. Bruce and Helen Newmarch of Kamloops; his daughter and son-in-law Dr. Marion Darling and Matt Greenlaw of Portland; grandchildren Paul (Asheley), Brian (Kristina), Michael (Emilie), Graham, Kathleen, William and Stephanie Newmarch, and Curtis (Krystal) and Reid Darling; great-grandchildren, Joel and Kieran Newmarch.
