Kalman Munkacsi

Obituary of Kalman Coleman Munkacsi

Kelly slipped away peacefully with his loving wife and family at his side on Friday, December 12, 2008 after a lengthy stay in the Rockyview Hospital. In 1928, at the age of three, Kelly immigrated to Canada from Hungary. He spent his early years in Drumheller, and later moved to Calgary. Throughout his working life, Kelly excelled at many different skills. His true love and passion was construction. He was instrumental in the designing and building of major landmarks throughout Calgary, later evolving into the construction and inspection of new schools. His final position before retiring was the Assistant Director of Maintenance for the Calgary Board of Education. Work wasn’t Kelly’s whole world though. He had many other interests, like designing of furniture and new homes. He will always be remembered for his generosity and big heart. Many a winter weekend, Kelly could be seen with a vehicle full of children, not all his own, heading to the mountains for a ski race or a practice. In the summer, he was always camping, fishing, or golfing with family and friends. He was a member of the Canadian Legion (Kensington) and a lifetime member of the Canada Horseshoe Club. He leaves to mourn his wife Margaret of sixty years; his daughter Shirley; son-in-law Tom; grandchildren Tamara Maillot Delong (Kelly) and Kristopher Delong (Hazel). Kelly also leaves behind his brother Arpod Munkacsi (Shirley); sister Arakana Finigan (Al); sister-in-law June Peddie; brother-in-law Ken Sands (Pearl) , as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Kelly was predeceased by his son Gary in 2007, and his mother Elizabeth in 1997. Kelly will truly be missed by all who knew him.
