Obituary of Lucia Giovanna Lombardi

Lucia Lombardi of Calgary passed away peacefully on December 12, 2008 at the age of 70 years. Lucia was born in Sessano Del Molise, Italy on October 6, 1938. She came to Canada in 1961 with her mother Donata, to join her brother and sisters and their families. Lucia married in 1965 and had three children. She had an infectious laugh and a joy for life that she carried with her. Lucia used this characteristic in her work life, having spent many years at Eaton’s as a line cook and making many friends. Her gardening and baking was always filled with love and generosity. Lucia created a loving home, welcoming all that came through her door and was always there for her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Lucia is survived by her daughters, Lina (Emilio) DiGaeta and their children, Giuseppe and Marco, Maria (Sam) Elkassem and their children, Gabriel and Kareem; son, Franco and his son, Justin; brother, Nicola (Maria) Sciarra; and sisters, Luisa Valente, Antonietta (Giovanni) Ciccaglione, and Gina Polinelli. She is also survived by Saverio Lombardi and his sister, Addolorata (Antonio) Esposito; her extended families in Italy and Australia; and as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and abroad. Lucia was predeceased by her father, Giacomo Sciarra; mother, Donata Petrolini and her three siblings. Through her battle with Alzheimer’s we would like to thank her extended family at the Bethany Care Centre in Harvest Hills for their compassion and loving support throughout the years, especially during her last few days with us. We would like to thank everyone that took the time out of their day to visit Lucia.
