Obituary of David Joseph Wingert

It is with great sadness that the family of David Joseph Wingert of Calgary announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, December 6, 2008, after a battle with cancer. David was number eight of ten children born to Mary and Joseph Wingert in Benito, MB on June 19, 1944. After joining the military and moving to Calgary in the mid 1960’s, David met and married his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth. He surrounded himself with happiness from his family: son Peter (AJ Lethbridge), ex-daughter-in-law Theresa Wingert, and grandson David Wingert of Drayton Valley, AB; daughter and son-in-law Brigette and Scott Rawlings of Crossfield, AB; granddogs Buddy, Rupert, Merlin, Clyde, and Gizmo; and his true companion, Football the Cat, whom he went everywhere with. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother Raymond (Millie) Wingert, sister-in-law Elizabeth Wingert and brother-in-law Roy (Marjorie) Maguire, all of Calgary; sister-in-law Pamela Wangsness of Leduc, AB; sisters Joyce Goforth of Pierson, MB, Eileen Robertson of Pine Falls, MB, Leona Glennon (Gord Garrett) of Sault Ste. Marie, ON; Evelyn (Earl) Bridgeman of Brandon, MB; Nadine (Fred) Kalinowsky of Beausejour, MB; sister-in-law Alice Wingert of Brandon, MB; Lorraine Wingert and Pat Wingert, of London ON; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins; and his very good friend, Art Dobson. In life, David was a quiet, humble, hard working, proud man who loved his family and friends very much. We will all greatly miss him, but are comforted by the thought that he is with his loving wife Elizabeth Wingert; mother and father Mary and Joseph Wingert; mother and father-in-law Alex and Anne Maguire; brothers Richard, Donald and James Wingert; brothers-in-law Colin Maguire, Orrin Wangsness, Dennis Glennon, and Bradley Robertson. “When I have come to the end of the road, And the sun has set for me, I hope you will realize my pain at last is free. Miss me a little…but not too long, And not with head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me… but let me go, For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone, It’s all a part of a master plan, A step on the road to home.
