Obituary of Thomas Chart Landreth

Bud Landreth of Calgary, passed away on December 5, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Bud was born on February 19, 1919, in Whittier, California. He attended school in Southern California and studied Petroleum Engineering at the University of California, Berkley. While travelling in the South Pacific Bud took a job with the US Marine Corp on Wake Island. As the Pacific war was breaking out, Bud was captured and spent the remaining war years as a prisoner of war. In 1945 he returned to Berkeley, completed his degree, and embarked on a career in the oil industry. He moved to Venezuela where he met and married Marlene Tufts. They moved to Canada in 1951 where Bud pursued his career of over 30 years as a Petroleum Engineer and Manager. Bud was a life-long learner, and at the age of 55 he returned to university where he earned his Masters Degree in creative writing at the University of the Americas in Cholula, Mexico. His remaining working life was spent writing, largely recounting his war experiences. He self published the novel “Avail The Time” in 2000. Bud was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed times with family and friends and will be dearly missed by all of those whose lives he touched. Bud is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Barry Lust of Sylvan Lake, AB, and his son and daughter-in-law, John and Andira Landreth of McKinney, Texas. Grandchildren, Roberta, Jolene, Brett and Rama. Brother, John Landreth of Maryland, USA. Nephew, Robert and niece Tracy Landreth. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas Sr. and Alyne Landreth.
