Albert Barr

Obituary of Albert Barr

Albert passed away peacefully in his 88th year in the loving embrace of his family at Rockyview General Hospital on November 27, 2008. Beloved husband to his cherished wife, Doris, each most precious to the other for 63 years, their love is eternal. Born in Conquest, Saskatchewan, Al was a veteran of WW II serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the 39th Reconnaissance Wing. In this capacity he was an instrument of deliverance to those held in Belsen and to a world gripped by tyranny. He worked as an electrician through four decades at Lawson and Jones Ltd in London, Ontario. There he and Doris raised their children: Allen, Susan and John. He remains a part of them. A special blessing to Albert was his son-in-law, Susan’s husband, Gary Melanson who has enhanced Mr. Barr’s life immeasurably. Retiring to Victoria and Calgary Al was content, revelling in his seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. However poor health, uninvited, dogged him increasingly yet he was patient, constructive and positive. Throughout his life his faith, integrity, selflessness and humour never wavered. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Rockyview General Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at Southview Alliance Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2008. In lieu of flowers donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. In living memory of Albert Barr, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.
