Karen Loney

Obituary of Karen Kathleen Loney

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Karen, our bright ray of sunshine Karen was born to Hugh and Lue Wilson in Wetaskawin, Alberta. Karen loved adventure and travel. She had extremely fond memories of her years in Turkey and all the fun adventures she had with her family and friends there. Karen had many friends and loved to spend time with them traveling, skiing, hiking, golfing, sharing a meal, or just sitting on the deck with a glass of wine at the lake enjoying their company. Karen went to school at the University of Alberta to become a registered nurse. After she raised her children she used her nursing degree to start a business with her friend Carol Perkins in the health and wellness field with Mobil Oil. Many people all over Alberta learned to look after their backs with the back care program that she created. During the last year of her illness, Karen took to redesigning the cabin in order to create space for her growing family. She oversaw a large renovation project which she was able to see completed. Karen faced her illness with the same determination, strength and humour that she did with everything in her life. A special thanks to Dr. Ainsley and staff at the Peter Lougheed Hospital research program who helped Karen understand her disease and gave her hope. She is survived by her loving husband, dance partner, and best friend of fifty-one years Bev Loney. She leaves behind her children, Heather Spackman and her husband Doug, and Hugh Loney and his wife Anna. Karen cherished all of her grandchildren, Josh, Dani, Michael, Rachel, and baby Kyle, who will deeply miss their time at the lake with their Gran. She also leaves her sister Bess Marshall and brother-in-law Ralph; two nieces, Karen and Jody; as well as Bev’s brothers, Barry and Adrian and their families. She will be missed by her cousin Fred Wilson who was her close friend and confidant since childhood.
