Obituary of Van Leeuwen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Bill Van Leeuwen, beloved husband of Martha of Calgary who passed away on November 25, 2008 at the age of 76 years. Bill was born in Amsterdam, Holland on January 18, 1932. In 1956, Bill came to Canada with his wife, Martha to forge a new life in Calgary, AB. Bill began his company, Crown Optical, in 1961 and that company proudly continues, to this day. He was also very proud of his thriving contact lens practice he shared with Dr. Robert L. Sutherland and will be lovingly remembered by those he came into contact with as the “Whistling Optician”. Bill was an enthusiastic and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He faced many challenges, including his fight with cancer, with a smile on his face and a song in his heart. Bill will be sadly missed for his easy smile, caring ways and genuine joy for life. Besides his loving wife Martha, Bill is survived by his children, Bruce (Kim) and Sandy (Allan), and his six, much loved grandchildren, Nicholas, Daniel, Matthew, Annika, Krista and Alex. He was predeceased by his infant son, Micheal. Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. We would like to extend our gratitude to the caring people at the Newport Harbour Care Centre.
