Obituary of Donald Campau

Don Campau of Calgary passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the age of 91 years. Don was born and spent most of his early years in Detroit, Michigan. Don enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in the South Pacific with the 101st AA Battalion. After his discharge in 1945, Don came back to Michigan and married the only girl in his life, Kathryn, in January 1946. After obtaining his master’s degree in Geology from Michigan State University, Don embarked on a long career as a paleontologist and petroleum geologist in both the U.S. and Canada, working for the State of Michigan, Standard Oil of California, both Canadian and American Stratigraphic Companies, Sun Oil Company, Canadian Pacific Oil and Gas Corporation (which later became PanCanadian Petroleum Corporation and then EnCana Corporation), Candel Oil Company and Sulpetro Ltd. Don was very active in his profession and became one of the first members of APEGGA. After retiring in 1982, Don continued to consult for a number of years. Don is survived by his children, Kay Carter, Rob Campau (Denise), Dave Campau and Mary Martineau (Rick) and eight grandchildren, Kelly Carter, Brian Carter (Jamie), Scott Campau (Cheryl), Elysia Tatlow (Chris), Wayne Martineau, Darryl Martineau, Richard Martineau and Cody Campau. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty years, Kathryn, in 2006 and son-in-law, Bob Carter, in 2008.
