Obituary of Heather Janet Ann Thornton

Heather Thornton (Caputo) passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22nd at the age of 65 years. Heather’s greatest passion in life was her family, followed closely by her many friendships and love of baking, quilting, dancing, travelling, arts & crafts and the adoption of strays (both the human and animal kind). Always busy, Heather was never one to let grass grow beneath her feet and was always looking forward to the next activity or adventure; be it happily dancing the day away with the Chinook Country Line Dancers at various events, sweeping “h a r d” with her curling crew or her “Group Therapy” with the Curves girls (which may have been just an excuse to eat good food and drink good wine without the guilt). Heather was always keeping her hands busy creating her own quilted masterpieces and teaching others how to do the same and she was famous for her delicious baking that would sell out within minutes at the various bake sales. If all that wasn’t enough, she still managed to find time to support her two sons with their new business venture. Although Heather’s fun was cut short by cancer, she lived life to its fullest and admittedly had no regrets as she embarked on this next great adventure. She will always be remembered for her compassion, poise and grace under pressure and love of good times with friends and family. Heather leaves behind her two loving and devoted sons, Michael and Timothy; daughter-in-law, Nancy; sister Irene, “seestor” Maxine and other family members, mostly “back-East”. Heather was recently predeceased by her parents, Bert and Ivy. In keeping with her love of animals a Celebration of Heather’s Life will be held at the Safari Lodge in the Calgary Zoo (1300 Zoo Road NE) on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. In recognition of Heather’s compassion for animals, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to an animal charity of the donor’s choice. We would like to thank Irene, Maxine, Barry and all her many friends that showed such love and support to Heather and her family, especially over the past several months. We would also like to thank the Foothills Hospital, Unit 46 and the Sarcee Hospice for the excellent care provided to Heather.
