Obituary of Elaine Heikkinen

Elaine Grace Heikkinen beloved wife of Russell Heikkinen of Calgary, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side, on November 24, 2008 at the age of 75 years. Elaine will be lovingly missed and always remembered by her husband Russell, her daughter Debbie (Patrick), her son Dustin (Krystle), and many extended family and friends. Elaine was born in Portage La Prairie, MB., and worked as a treacher in Manitoba during her early adult years. In time, Elaine relocated and settled in the Calgary area where she employed by the Government of Alberta – Agriculture Department secretarial pool, where she quickly advanced to the position of Manager. Elaine left the Government service to join her husband, Russ as proud and well respected owners of Regal Sheet Metal – a business they successfully ran for twenty-five years until her retirement. She loved to work and enjoyed the time she spent with her co-workers and customers. From an early age it was evident Elaine had a love for music. She loved to sing, play piano and quitar. She loved to garden and entertain friends and was always cooking and baking for friends and family. Elaine also gave of herself and was a long time volunteer in the community. She supported her son Dustin’s passion and was one of the founding members of, and served as Treasurer for the Wild Rose Motocross Association for twenty years. The family sincerely thanks the wonderful staff at the Chinook Care Centre for the patience and compassionate care given to Elaine during her stay at their facility. Elaine is survived by her loving husband Russell; sons and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Krystle Heikkinen of Calgary, Scott Barratt and Pam of Vancouver; daughter and son-in-law Debra and Patrick Wagar of Calgary; grandson Kyle Coates; great granddaughter Madelyn Palmquist; sisters, Joan Milne, Shirley Ek, and Barbara Simmons; and Marilyn Mitchell. She is predeceased by both of her parents, Art and Gladys Simmons, her brother Stanley and her two sons, Dale and Jerry Brown.
