Obituary of Raffaele Niro

Raffaele Niro beloved husband of Elisa Niro of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the age of 81 years. Raffaele was born on Friday, February 4, 1927 in Pizzoferrato, Chieti, Italy. He married Elisa Di Matteo on December 28, 1949 and after working in Belgium Mines and with the Postal service in Germany, Raffaele came to Canada in 1967 to begin a new life. In 1969 the family joined him in Strathmore where they made their new home, before coming to Calgary in 1979. Raffaele worked for many years with CP Rail, retiring in 1986 as foreman. Raffaele enjoyed to be with his family and friends, and especially loved the outdoors. He would go fishing whenever possible and also to hunt in the fall season. Raffaele was a faithful member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and enjoyed the many activities at church functions. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Raffaele is survived by his loving wife Elisa; daughter Lina Margiotta; son, Giuseppe and Lillian Niro; grandchildren, Simonetta Margiotta (Tony Tacderas) and Renato Niro; three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews in Italy. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Mausoleum.
