Obituary of Carole Jean Graham
Carole passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the age of 68 years with her loving children Mike, Neil, Christine, granddaughter Leah, and daughter-in-law Lillian by her side. She passed away after a short but very courageous battle with cancer.
She is additionally survived by her son Larry, son-in-law Corey, daughter-in-law Diana, grandchildren Gordon, Mark, Eric, Ethan, Kelly, Casey, and Matthew James. She is also survived by her two sisters Isabelle and Catherine and bother-in-law Ian.
Carole was born in Medicine Hat, AB on December 13, 1939 and grew up there and in Calgary. As an army wife she traveled to and started a family in many places, including Germany, Penhold, AB and the place she always called home in her heart, Victoria, BC. She then spent many years in Innisfail, AB, raising her family, making lifelong friends and exploring and establishing her faith in Unity. Having proudly raised her children, Carole then moved to Calgary to begin a new adventure in life.
Carole loved her independent life in Calgary, adding more close friends to her growing circle and it was here where Carole, who had always loved babies, found the perfect job for herself as Unit Clerk of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Foothills Medical Centre. She spent her last working years there; loving her job, the babies, and her co-workers.
Upon her early retirement from the NICU, Carole spent her days writing, having fun with her friends, becoming involved in politics, and loving her rapidly expanding set of grandchildren. She even became an expert in using the computer, creating beautiful family albums, reading and writing blogs, and tracking the whereabouts of Stephen Harper.
Carole loved to laugh; our memories are filled with family events, get-togethers, and long conversations which, no matter how sad or unpleasant, always ended in laughter. She did not dwell on sadness or unhappiness, always choosing to help and be helped with humour. A sense of humour that did not leave her even at the very end of her life.
Above all, Carole loved to help. She asked little of herself, preferring to give her love, humour, and strength to her family and friends. A kind and beautiful Spirit, her loving nature, independence, and dignity were gifts to all who were blessed to know her. We thank her for being our mother, our friend, our sister, and we are proud to have called her Mom.
At Carole’s request, no service will be held. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to Christine Severtson, 83 Chaparral Ridge Way, Calgary AB, T2X 3L1 or by contacting Mike Graham at 250-294-4199 and are greatly appreciated.
