Obituary of Mary Margaret Simon

Mary Simon was called Home by the Creator, to be reunited with her husband Sam, on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at the age of 84 years on the Tsuu T’ina Nation. Mary will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She will always be remembered as a kind and gentle woman. Mary loved and cherished all her grandchildren. She was also known as a respected Elder and had a quiet personality that still showed kindness and love at all the Tsuu T’ina Nation gatherings and celebrations. Her favourite daily activity was going for walks and visiting her close friend Katie Dodginghorse. She also enjoyed beading, puzzles, watching the Calgary Flames and chuck wagon racing, as well as taking loving care of her pet dog Brandy. Mary is survived by her daughters, Gladys (Alex), Patricia, Flora, Noreen (Terry), and Lynn; sons, Sammy (Marlene), Jerry (Patsy), Teddy, Dennis (Kim), and Kenny; sisters, Bertha, Elsie, and Debra; sister-in-laws, Rachel and Dora Big Plume; her grandchildren, Wanda, Dean (June), Terry (Tracey), Deanna, Malcolm Owl, Shawna, Warren, Livia (Dion), Trina Piche, Jason (Joanne), Malcolm Soosay, Tillina, Twylla, Justin, Tommy, Trina (John), Clayton (Lindsay), Stephanie (Kelly), Jeremy (Tiffany), Jaye T (Amanda), Terry Jr. (Tabatha), Laurie, Chelsey Joe, Blue (Genine), Carmilata, Dennis Jr. (Toni), Daniel, Dylan, David, Alisa, Matthew and Pebbles; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins from Tsuu T’ina, Hobbema, Morley, Standoff, AB, and Montana, USA. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Sam Simon Sr., son Erwin, mother Clara Big Plume, father George Big Plume, brothers, John and Joe Big Plume, sister Florence, granddaughter Sarah, nieces, Frannie, Laurie Big Plume and Lena Crowchild (Big Plume), nephews, Bradford and Freddie Littlelight and Ronnie, Dale and Andrew Big Plume, as well as her brother-in-law Steve Mistakenchief. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Mary Simon (Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB) on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12, 2008. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church (Tsuu T’ina Nation, 3700 Anderson Road S.W.) on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Tsuu T’ina Cemetery (Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB).
