Obituary of Donald Garfield Stewart

Don Stewart beloved husband of the late Jane Stewart (nee Simonton), passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the age of 64 years. Don graduated from the University of Alberta in Agriculture Science and was employed for a number of years as a ranch manager; initially at the family ranch in Cochrane and later in rural Alberta. In 1985, he joined the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede as senior agriculture manager. After retirement in 2006, he continued to pursue his passions of music and fly fishing. Don was the consummate gentleman. He will always be remembered for; his sense of decency and integrity, his honesty and loyalty, his strong commitment to family, friends and community and his rather mischievous sense of humour. Don is survived by his sons, Michael (Tara) Stewart and David (Jasmina) Stewart; four grandchildren, Mack, Avery, Bryn and Aidan He is also survived by his brothers, George (Ellen), Peter, David (Ruth) and Duncan (Susan). Don was a terrific brother-in-law to, Rick (Janet) Simonton and Jody (Ian) Thumlert and a favourite uncle to, Geoff, Mark, Lindsey, Catherine, Elisabeth, Ian, Reid, Neil and Scott. Don is predeceased by his loving wife of 38 years Jane in 2006; his parents Garf and Helen and Jane’s parents Emily Love and Joe Simonton. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Don’s life at the Round-Up Centre, “Palomino Room” (Stampede Grounds) on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
