Obituary of Paolina Ficaccio
Paolina Ficaccio, beloved wife of Italo Ficaccio of Calgary, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the age of 84 years.
Paolina was born in Sonnino, Italy on January 25, 1924. She married Italo on October 11, 1945 and immigrated to Calgary with her son in 1954 to join her husband. Paolina worked in Calgary as a seamstress and with her sister-in-law in custom drapery. Paolina had a passion for gardening, flowers (even dandelions) and loved to crochet. She was an amazing chef, and welcomed everyone into her home. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she was very proud of all their accomplishments. Her great grandchildren, brought light to her life and she treasured the moments she had with them. Paolina was a very strong person, she endured her illnesses with bravery while maintaining a positive attitude. Her smile would light up a room.
Paolina is survived by her loving husband, Italo; her son, Salvatore and daughter-in-law, Elisabetta; grandchildren, Marco (Kristy), Sonia (Luigi), Laura, and Michael (Leah McDonald); great grandchildren, Paige and Domenic. Paolina is also survived by her brothers, Pasqualino and Michele (Graziella); sisters, Maria (Giuseppe) and Lisa.; sisters-in-law, Maria and Angelina in Italy. Sisters-in-law, Antonietta, Elide and Maria; brother-in-law, Rico (Ida); as well as numerous nieces and nephews in both Canada and Italy. Paolina was predeceased by her brothers, Umberto and Savino.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Eastside Memorial Chapel (5388 Memorial Drive NE) on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Mausoleum.
