Obituary of Bertha Petersen
Bertha Petersen of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the age of 95 years.
Bertha was born in Haden, Denmark and immigrated to Canada when she was 17 years old. She attended school in Dickson, AB where she met and married the love of her life, Ernie Petersen. Together they started a new life in Pincher Creek and Calgary raising two children, Corinne and Kenneth. At the age of 61 Bertha and Ernie retired in White Rock, BC, where she spent thirty years. She had many friends and could often be found playing Bridge several times a week. At the age of 91 Bertha returned to Calgary and has resided at the Lake Bonavista Village Retirement Residence.
Bertha will be lovingly remembered by her children, Corinne Swinarton, Kenneth (Maureen) Petersen; her sister Greta of Copenhagen; grandchildren, Cameron (Cathy), Krista, Susan (Darwin), Shelly (John), and Cory; great-grandchildren Kaden, Keidric, and Mryiah. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bertha was predeceased by her beloved husband Ernie in 1986; granddaughter Eleise in 1981; sisters, Karen and Eva; brother Paul; and by her son-in-law Jack Swinarton in 2006.
A Celebration of Bertha’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
