Obituary of Arnold Johan Hartland

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Arnold Johan Hartland, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Arnold leaves behind his children, Lester (Diane), Jessica (Pierre) and David; extended family, Maryke, Jenny (Julian), Lorraine; ten grandchildren, Mark (Kendra), Matthew, Stephanie, Jacob, Maya, Kelson, Michael, Ethan, Allison, and Zoe; his only sister Hunnie Wolfson who resides in Holland; two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Cody; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, Holland and USA. Arnold was predeceased by his wife Irma of 50 years in 2004. Arnold emigrated to Canada in 1952, settling first in Sudbury, Ontario before moving west to Calgary and marrying his first love Irma. Dad was a Petroleum Engineer and worked in the Oil Patch until retiring in 1985 from Riley’s Data Share. After losing his wife Irma, Dad moved into the Arbour Lake Retirement Residence and was known for being a great bridge player. He was an avid reader, loved watching all kinds of sports on T.V., loved calculating crossword puzzles and big family dinners. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Friday, September 19, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Graveside service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
