Obituary of Shirley Estelle Kane

Shirley Estelle Kane (nee Graham) went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, September 15, 2008 at the age of 86; she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Shirley was born on October 9, 1921 and grew up in Calgary. After finishing high school she worked at Hollingsworth, sewing fur coats. She then attended business college and began her career as a secretary, working for Midland Superior and Beddington Pentecostal Church. In 1974 Shirley married the love of her life, Jim, and together they enjoyed 34 years of marriage. Shirley was a devout Christian and a dedicated member of her church, involved with missionaries and recent immigrants to Calgary, the Young at Heart Club, community outreach at the Mustard Seed, and volunteering with children in the Missionette program. This servant of the Lord has truly done what she could. Shirley loved knitting, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and anything crafty. Through her ever-lasting faith in God, patience and genuine care of others, she inspired and mentored many people. She was known for her kind, gentle ways and thoughtful generosity. Shirley is survived by her sister Alice (Oatway); and numerous nieces and nephews and their families, who will remember her with love and respect. She took a keen interest in the lives of her extended family. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Jessie Graham, her devoted husband Jim Kane, sisters Ruth (Graham), and Margaret (Sly), and brothers Maxwell and Ted. And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Beddington Pentecostal Church (16 Bermuda Drive N.W.) on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with viewing prior to the service in the Fireside Room, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
