Obituary of Dennis Wagner
We are saddened to announce Dennis Wagner passed away suddenly at the Chinook Care Centre on September 9, 2008 at the age of 91 years.
Dennis was born on December 28, 1916, at Stockport, Cheshire, England to Olive Garner and Reuben Wagner. He immigrated to Canada with his mother after the death in Belgium of his father in WW I. He considered Canmore, AB his Canadian home. In 1939, Dennis enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in Calgary and made the military his career. He had a second career in real estate in Victoria, B.C. After retirement, he moved to Calgary and volunteered with the Glenbow Museum as a docent. It became his mission to visit abandoned World War II British Commonwealth Training Plan sites across Alberta. He recorded the memories of former airmen across the world which became the website "Wings Over Alberta" (Alberta Encyclopedia Online)
Left to mourn his passing are his son, Barry (Elizabeth) of Ottawa, his two daughters, Denise (Harold) Chiponski of Portage la Prairie, and Marilyn Waigh of Pickering; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his six Travers nephews and their families in Canada and the U.S.A., his beloved great-nephew, Michael Travers (Wendy) of Calgary, his special friend Dorothy Henderson of Calgary, by his niece Anne (Lloyd) Bartel of Regina and Robert (Beth) Dredge of Olds. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Ruby Wagner and Irene Travers, his wife of fifty years, Meryl Dredge Wagner of Canmore, and his daughter Patricia Dakers.
A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) today, September 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
