Obituary of Mary Ruth Kelly

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Ruth Kelly. Ruth passed away on September 10, 2008, after a long and difficult illness. We could never pry our mother’s age from her, but we do know she was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan and raised in Gretna, Manitoba. Ruth always had a taste for adventure which led her to Calgary as a young woman where she built her life. She had an exciting career at CFAC Radio, which gave her material for many humorous stories about her experiences with the various colourful people who worked in radio back then. Ruth married Bernie Kelly in 1959, and settled into her life of being a wife and raising her 5 children. Ruth enjoyed people and loved to have fun with her many treasured friends. Friends and family will remember her wonderful sense of humour and her smile and laugh that made her such a fun person to be around. Her sense of adventure and energy led to an interesting array of jobs and entrepreneurial pursuits, including a catering business and working in the cattle industry. She had a great time with friends at Silver Springs Golf Course and bragged endlessly about winning the club’s match play tournament in 1999. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bernie, in 1988. She is survived by her children Jack (Susan Klarholm), Margaret, Joe, Ruthanne (David Eastham) and Dan; grandchildren Sebastian and Malena Kelly; Dana, Amanda, Christian, and Sarah Eastham; her brother Lynn (Joan) Scott and sister Jane (Dave) Curtis; sisters-in-law Kathleen Lauerman and Anna (Bud) Brabbins; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W.) on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W.) on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
