Obituary of Oliver Joe Hiltz

Joe Hiltz of Calgary passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday September 7, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Joe was born in Prince Albert, SK on April 15, 1922. He joined the Air Force in 1942 as an airframe mechanic and served until 1945. He was stationed in Gander, NL and Comox, BC. In 1948 Joe moved to Calgary where he married Dorothy. He was employed at Superior Paint and Body for twenty-six years as an autobodyman and later manager. He owned and operated his own autobody shop in Frank, AB for six years. In 1982 he started his own auto insurance appraisal company, O J Appraisals which he operated with his wife Dorothy until their retirement in 1993. His passions in life were his family, flying, traveling, and hunting. He was an extremely talented individual who enjoyed building his own Starduster II bi-plane, several cedar strip canoes, restoring cars and airplanes and woodworking. Joe will be greatly missed by his best friend and loving wife of fifty-nine years, Dorothy Hiltz. He was a devoted and loving father to his children and their spouses, Penny and Jack Donhuysen, Rick and Susan Hiltz, Betty and Steve Benediktson, Barbara and Zdenek Korabek, Wendy and Rick Warters, and Bruce and Tammy Hiltz. He was a loving grandfather and great grandfather to Theresa Rodrigues, Clayton and Aneta Donhuysen, Deanne and Travis Eade, Neil Hiltz, Chris and Mike Benediktson, Kelby and Matt Warters, Ashley Korabek, Remi and Mackenzie Hiltz, Eric, Genevieve and Luke Rodrigues, and Darren and Morgan Eade. Joe is also survived by his sister Joyce Munn, brother-in-laws, Walter Draper and Frank Baird, sister-in-law Lillian Baird; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Jean Draper and brother-in-law Harry Baird. A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
