Obituary of Leon Richard Melanson

It is with profound sadness that the family of Leon Richard Melanson announce his passing on Friday, August 29, 2008 after a courageous and lengthy battle with lung disease. Leon was born in Sackville, New Brunswick and it was there he met his wife Jeannine and they started their family. In 1965 they moved to Ontario and Leon continued his work as a conductor on the railroad. After thirty-five years of service, Leon retired and moved to Calgary, Alberta to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Leon worked for Borger Construction from 1990 to 1995. Leon and Jeannine started living their dream in 1994 when they began travelling throughout the U.S. and Canada, spending the next ten years living full time in their R.V. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of fifty-two years Jeannine Lorraine Melanson (Cormier), his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Robert Borger of Calgary; his son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Linda Melanson of Jasper; five grandchildren, Tyler, Kirk and Amber Borger and Carly and Dayna Melanson; nine brothers and sisters, Ada (Hal) Ramsay, Anne Kent, Kathleen (Joseph) Estabrooks, Marguerite (Elbert) White, Ernest (Barbara) Melanson, Evelyn (George) Ayer, Marion Locy, Malcolm (Rose) Melanson and David Melanson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Leon’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. Graveside Service to be held at a later day in Middle Sackville, N.B.
