Obituary of Muriel Jean Gill

John 11:25: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.” Muriel “Jean” Gill of Calgary passed away peacefully on August 25, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Jean was born on August 24, 1919 in Calgary to Sydney Raymond and Doris Baker Vallance. Brother Peter arrived seven years later. Happy summers spent at Lake Minnewanka included Mum’s friend from age twelve (1931), Jeanette Veale, who still remains close to the family. Mum attended the University of Alberta earning her BA in 1942. That same year she married W.B. Gill. The Lake Windermere cottage and love of travel culminated in her trip to China in 1982. Bird watching, the Calgary Field Naturalist Society and her beloved cats gave her joy. Two weeks before she departed, Mum announced, “I’m going home!” Jean leaves her daughter, Joanne Kathleen and caring son-in-law Leif Karlsson; son William Sydney Gill (Bill) & his step-daughters Melissa and Micaela; son Daniel Baskerville Gill; grandson, Michael; sister-in-law and family, Jean Vallance, David, Bruce and Barbara (Larry) and their families; her nieces Eleanor Ruth Dawson and Mary-Jean Newman (David) and their sons, Michael, Anthony and Andrew. She was predeceased by her brother- and sister-in-law, Arnold and Julia Dawson and by her brother, Peter Vallance, who left us only 13 days before Mum. Funeral Services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, (3610 Sarcee Road S.W.) on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
