Obituary of Gilbert Raymond Beatson

Gilbert (Gib) Raymond Beatson beloved husband of Lea of Calgary passed away on August 25, 2008 after a long, courageous battle with cancer at the Agape Hospice, where he was lovingly cared for. Gib was born on May 17, 1927 in Winnipeg, MB. Upon graduating in Architecture at the University of Manitoba, he spent two years in Europe and took classes at Sorbonne, Paris. After returning home to Winnipeg he worked for an architectural firm and met his wife Lea and married. Gib was offered a job in Calgary with a prominent engineering firm to start an architectural division within the company. After several years, he started his own architectural firm. He retired from architecture after twenty–seven years and became a charter member as umpire with the jurisdictional assignment plan – Japlan – of the Alberta Construction Industry. Gib was a sole arbitrator and panel member on more than fifty arbitration and mediations dealing with design and construction disputes. Gib’s numerous contributions were recognized by his professions. Gib will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-four years, Lea; children, Kim (Don), Geoffrey (Kate) and Greg (Sue). Papa will be cherished by his five grandchildren, Laura, Patty, Kevin, Ryan and Julie. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Grant (Gerry) of Vancouver, their three daughters and families; as well as numerous cousins. The primary loves of his life – his family, friends, professions, and travels, especially summers at the cottage on Shuswap Lake and winters in Mexico.
