Obituary of James Joseph Martin
James Joseph Martin, beloved husband of Joyce of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the age of 75 years.
Born in Torbay, Newfoundland, Jim moved to Alberta in 1955 to work as a surveyor for the Banff/Jasper highway. Jim met Joyce Taylor in Banff and they were married on May 29, 1964. They moved to Fort McMurray where they resided for many years while he was employed with the Great Canadian Oil Sands. In the fall of 1975, they moved to Sarnia, ON until 1978 when they moved back to Alberta, where they have resided in Calgary since. Jim had been a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he enjoyed many crib tournaments. Jim was an avid bowler and camper although he did not go without his black and white television for his baseball addiction.
Besides his loving wife Joyce, Jim is survived by one son Brad and one daughter Dawn, both of Calgary. Jim is the last survivor of a large family consisting of seven sons and five daughters. Jim was also predeceased by his parents David and Margaret Martin.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
