Obituary of Clara Jean Morton
Clara Jean Morton (nee Fryer), beloved wife of Ronald of Calgary, passed away at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice on Monday, August 11, 2008 at the age of 77 years, after a prolonged illness at the Rockyview General Hospital.
Jean was born in Calgary and grew up in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. She obtained her RN and B.Sc. in Nursing at the University of Alberta, and then worked as a member of the teaching faculty at the Calgary General Hospital until her marriage in 1960 to John Ronald Morton. During her children’s childhood years she taught Sunday school, was badge secretary for the Girl Guides and volunteered at the schools. Jean spent a great part of her life battling health afflictions and yet succeeded in raising a wonderful family. She admired the beauty and wonders of nature and enjoyed camping and bird-watching, and she and Ron traveled both locally and abroad to view wildlife in natural settings. Jean was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening and needlework. She loved to swim both in the lakes and in later years with an aquasize program where the buoyancy of the water gave her greater freedom of movement. She took pleasure in trying new recipes, and in cheering on Calgary’s professional sports teams.
Jean is remembered by her loving husband Ronald; her daughters, Barbara Watson (Bradley) of Latrobe, Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Falk (Peter) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and her grandchildren, Victoria, Kathleen, Charles, Karen, and James. Jean is also survived by her sister Patricia Lemmon and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her parents Bernard and Evelyn Fryer of Calgary.
