Obituary of Peter Johnston Auchterlonie
Peter (Rusty) Auchterlonie beloved husband of Ruth of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Care Hospice on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the age of 83 years.
Rusty was born in Linlithgow, Scotland on May 23, 1925 and served in World War II where he went overseas to England, France, Belgium, and Holland. Rusty had the rank of Corporal just before becoming wounded on March 30, 1945. He was sent to the number one Canadian hospital in Bruges, Belgium, and after recovering, Rusty returned to the Canadian Military where he remained until November, 1953. Rusty loved Western movies and books and he was quite the baker and cook. He also had a wonderful sense of humour. Unfortunately, Rusty had been ill for more than a year and after spending a year with his wife Ruth in Westview Lodge, he was moved to Chinook Care Hospice for his final weeks.
Rusty is survived by his wife, Ruth Auchterlonie; son-in-law, Blaine (Bill) Snyder; grandchildren, Lawrence Snyder, Judith and Don Munroe, Russell and Charisma Snyder, and Cameron Snyder, as well as by his great-grandchildren, Blaine, Zachary, Ethan, and Erica.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through .
