Obituary of Douglas Dunwoody
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doug Dunwoody on June 23, 2008 at the age of 55. He passed away while doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle with friends in the hills of Montana and Wyoming. Born in Vancouver, BC, Doug was the middle of three children to Bill and Irene Dunwoody. Doug graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Masters in Kinesiology as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. While in BC, Doug met Jane, the love of his life, at a racquetball tournament. The two were married in 1981 and had two beautiful daughters, Jennifer and Erica. They resided in Richmond, BC while Doug was employed with UBC until deciding to move out to Calgary in 1988. In Calgary, Doug worked at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. From SAIT, he moved to Mount Royal College in 1999, where he became the Director of Information Technology. Doug was a loving husband, doting father, most excellent brother, dearest son, faithful friend, and a professional business man. He was highly respected and admired by his peers and co-workers and will be sadly missed. His leadership and kindness was unprecedented. Doug was a warm hearted and compassionate man who had a large circle of family and friends. He was known for his love of mentoring and was the "go to guy" for just about everything. Along with spending quality time with his family, Doug loved to ride his Goldwing, swing the sticks at the Country Hills Golf Club, play poker with "the boys" and in 2005 he fulfilled the dream of completing a marathon. Doug was also extremely delighted when his brother John and family moved back to Calgary from Australia. Doug’s gentlemanly manner, integrity, enthusiasm, positive nature and joyful smile will always inspire his family and friends. His greatest love and pride was for his wife and two daughters. Doug is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Jane; daughters Jennifer and Erica; parents Bill and Irene Dunwoody of Cranbrook, BC; sister, Nancy (nee Dunwoody) and her husband Wilf Richter, and their children, Tanys and Mark Richter; brother John and his wife Sue (nee Albers) Dunwoody, and their children, Taylor and Keira Dunwoody; sister-in-law Debbie Faulkner; sister-in-law Penny Sampson and partner Ian Elliott, her children Lara Hughes and Heath and Michelle (nee Campbell) Sampson; brother-in-law Peter Faulkner and fianc’e BeBeAnne Smith. Doug was predeceased by Jane’s parents, James and Rose Faulkner.
