Obituary of Margaret Jean Wood-Samman

Jean Wood-Samman passed away at the Intercare Chinook Care Centre on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Jean was born in Truro, NS, but always considered herself a native Calgarian having spent almost all of her life in Calgary. After attending Rideau Park School and Western Canada High School she entered the Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as an RN in 1942. In 1943 Jean married RAF Flight Lieutenant Denis (Sammy) Wood-Samman and together they enjoyed sixty-one happy years of marriage before his passing on June 21, 2004. Jean was a long time member of Grace Presbyterian Church. She loved gardening and reading and always maintained a strong interest in the history and heritage of Calgary and its citizens. Jean will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered. Jean is survived by her daughter Lesley (Gary) Lee of Calgary, AB; son Richard (Debra) Wood-Samman of Ardrossan, AB; granddaughter Catherine (David) McGrath of Invermere, BC; two grandsons, Darren (Elizabeth) Lee of Sydney, Australia and Kevin (Chiharu) Lee of Kanazawa, Japan; and by six great-grandchildren, Parker, Nathaniel, and Zoe McGrath, all of Invermere, BC, Elisha and Emma Lorizio of Sydney, Australia, and Ethan Lee of Kanazawa, Japan. She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Emma Perkin, brothers Vance (Marie) Perkin and William (Emma) Perkin. A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.
