Obituary of Donald Clarence Johnson
Donald Clarence Johnson, beloved husband of Margaret Johnson of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the age of 59 years.
Don was born in Vancouver, BC in 1948 where he grew up and graduated from Gladstone High School. Don married Margaret Johnson (Wallace) in 1969 and lived in the BC Lower Mainland until his true passion in life, the airline business, brought him to Calgary on Canada Day 1977. Don joined Pacific Western Airlines as a Certified General Accountant in 1972, rising quickly to the rank of Assistant Treasurer. Throughout his career he held Senior Director roles with Pacific Western and Canadian Airlines.
Don was the founding president of the Midnapore Community Association, actively participated in the Midnapore Boy Scouts with his two sons, supported local little league baseball, and was an avid fan of local baseball teams. His passion for airplanes allowed Don to see the world with his family and friends. Locally Don dreamed of traveling in style, fulfilling his dream in the spring of 2008 with the acquisition of his very own Jaguar.
Together with his wife and family, Don was actively involved in a successful family business, supporting the Highland Dancing community around the globe. Don’s greatest joy was revelling in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Throughout a valiant six-year battle with cancer, Don continued to travel and was able to spend most of that time with his family and pets whom he loved.
Don is remembered by his loving wife Marg; his children, Jennifer George, Ian Johnson and Erik Johnson; two grandchildren, Rache and Scotia George, and sons-in-law Les George and Justin Creasey. He will also be missed by his father Otto Johnson of Mission, BC and sister Shirley Rothenbusch of Edmonton, AB. Don was predeceased by his mother Agnes Johnson (Burrell).
