George MacCallum

Obituary of George Thomas MacCallum

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather died peacefully on Tuesday evening, May 20, 2008. George was born in Munson, AB, and joined the Air Force in 1941. After the war, as a veteran, he studied Geology at the University of Alberta. George married the love of his life nurse Nancy Nahaiowski in 1949. He worked for Imperial Oil for 23 years, as a well-site geologist in northern Alberta and later in Exploration Research in Edmonton and Calgary, specializing in heavy oil. George and Nan moved to Calgary in 1963, where he ran his own successful business, MacCallum and Stewart Consulting Geologists. Together George and Nan raised seven children and inspired 14 grandchildren with deep respect for their loving kindness and generous hospitality. In 1981 “Granny and Grandpa” built a log house west of Cremona which their lucky grandkids lovingly call “The Farm.” As hard as he worked, George always made time for family. His children treasure memories of warm family dinners, all those barbecues and joyful holidays. George and Nan celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on May 9 this year. George will be forever loved by his devoted wife Nancy; his children Margi Molyneux (Keith), Maureen Ranson (Bill), Bill MacCallum (Marcy), George MacCallum, Pat Ryan (Kevin), Nancy Fleming (Byron) and Kathleen MacCallum; and his grandchildren Jon (Melissa), Chris (Sherra), Joanna (Sean), Kaele, Luc, Alexa (Andrew), Dan (Christie), Nathan, Erin, Dustin, Will, Colin, Davan and Brianna. George is also survived by his sisters Margaret Shaw and Bernie Hagel and brothers Bill MacCallum (Lilianne) and Ed MacCallum (Yvette); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
