Wayne Reid

Obituary of Wayne Thornton Reid

This wonderful, gentle, humble and beloved man left us on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Husband of Adele, Father, Father-in-law and Grandpa to Jennifer, Nick and 19-month old Wesley Harding, Father, Father-in-law and Grandpa to Brent, Jaclyn and 9-month old Seeana Reid, all of Calgary. Son to Elda Hunt of Calgary, Son-in-law to Julie and Joe Schick of Pickering, ON, Brother-in-law to Joe Schick Jr. of Pickering, ON. Wayne was born in Toronto on March 31, 1951. In April of 1979 Wayne and Adele moved to Calgary to begin their life together and Wayne quickly found employment as an office furniture installation supervisor at RGO Office Products. In 1980 they moved to Airdrie and in March of 1981 their first child, daughter Jennifer was born. Their second child, son Brent, was born in January 1983. In September of 1984, on an absolute leap of faith, C.S.S. Office Furniture was launched. Adele was able to maintain administrative duties while a stay-at-home Mom for several years and Wayne slowly but surely increased their clientele as a service and repair man in the office furniture industry, adding staff as C.S.S. expanded into the installation and office moves areas. In February of 1988 the family moved back to Calgary, and just a couple of years later the business was too large to be effectively run as a home-based operation and was relocated to the Foothills Industrial area. Wayne’s C.S.S. legacy will continue in the new generation, along with key long-term staff. He taught both Jennifer and Brent his work ethic, honesty, respect, knowledge, integrity and humour. When not working, Wayne’s passions included golf, hunting with Brent, good friend Dave and “the boys”, and most of all the weekend getaways to the cabin he built with his family in Montana. There, he enjoyed fishing for the beautiful rainbow trout, sitting around a campfire with all his Duck Lake friends, or tinkering with little never-ending cabin projects. Never will Long Dong, Potty Golf, Crib or the Horseshoe tournaments be the same without Wayne, his favourite cigar clamped firmly between his lips! Wayne’s greatest joy, however, were his grandchildren. Holding them for the first time after their births, watching them grow, playing with them meant everything to this “Ampa”. We can all share, over time, with these growing babies stories of just how great their grandfather was, how much fun, so hard-working, so respected! Wayne is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles, coast to coast in Canada, including Connie and Lou Forbes of Comox, BC, Ruth and Bob Willis of Bradford, ON and Emma Angus of Amherst, NS. A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S “Fish Creek Chapel” (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
