Obituary of Madeline Dora Slater
Madeline Dora Slater of Airdrie, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
Madeline was born in Cluny, AB on August 3, 1926 and grew up in Bassano, AB. She married in Victoria, BC and raised her family in Calgary. Madeline has resided in Airdrie for the past twenty-seven years and was an active member of the CWL. She spent many years volunteering for Meals on Wheels, the Bethany Care Centre, and many other organizations. Madeline retired from Canada Post after more than twenty years of service in November 1990. She was a smart and independent person who was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Madeline is survived by her family, son Richard (Barbara) Slater; daughter Sharon Slater; son-in-law Doug Anderson; sister Louise (Reg) Ell; brother Ray (Carol) Simonin; five grandchildren, Shawn (Pam) Slater, Trevor (Lynn) Slater, Jason (Madelle) Anderson, Jacquelyn (Marc) Laflamme, and Dale Anderson; and seven great-grandchildren, Micaela, Rebecca, Tristen, Jahson, Rahdel, Alahkin and Nazareth. She was predeceased by her daughters, Jacquelyn Slater in 1971 and Shirley Anderson in 2005, and her brother Maurice Simonin in 2000.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church (1305 Main Street, Airdrie, AB) on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice. Sincere thanks to the staff and residents at Bethany Care Centre for all the love and care provided to Madeline.
