Obituary of Mickey Cochrane
Mickey (H. C.) Cochrane, beloved husband of Elma of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the age of 85 years.
Mickey was born in Dauphin, Manitoba. He earned his wings and served in the Air Force during WWII. Later, he attended UBC (B.Com.) and moved to Saskatoon where he met Elma Shelly, the love of his life and best friend. They married on August 25, 1951 and began raising their family. Mickey opened the first of his Economy Hardware stores in Saskatoon. As the business expanded the family moved to Calgary in 1961, where he later added a chain of dry-cleaning operations to his commercial interests. A successful entrepreneur, he always approached life with genuine passion, whether playing golf, managing his investments, or just savouring an ice-cream cone. Mickey’s greatest achievements and highest values were found in his heartfelt relationships with family, friends, colleagues and legions of others he touched along the way. His life, even his final days, were filled by his great warmth and good humour. Mickey’s legacy of love, laughter, kindness and generosity will be forever cherished by those remaining behind; especially his beloved wife, Elma, his children; Donna Topham, Wendy Johnson (Kim), Judy Rencz, and Gord Cochrane (Spring); and six grandchildren, Collin, Gibson, Bryan, Michael, Robbie and Sydney.
