Obituary of Gabriele Civitarese

Gabriele Civitarese, cherished husband, loving father and treasured grandfather passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the age of 73 years. Gabriele was born in Ortona, Chieti, Italy on March 7, 1935. He married his life-long partner, Maria, in 1958 and immigrated to Calgary in 1961 to begin a new life. Gabriele and Maria had two children Lucy and Lorenzo. Gabriele worked in construction for many years until he stopped working in the early 1980’s. During his life time Gabriele enjoyed fishing with his friends and relatives. One of his greatest passions was growing his own geraniums that he shared with many of his friends. Other joys in his life included making good wine, cooking and sharing a good meal with his family and friends. He was always the “life of the party”. Gabriele fought a long, courageous battle with cancer and will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. He was wonderfully kind and a good friend to many. He will remain in our hearts forever. Gabriele will be remembered by his wife of fifty years Maria; daughter and son-in-law Lucy and Frank Del-ciotto; and their children Gino, Michael, Stephen and Anthony; son and daughter-in-law Lorenzo and Angela Civitarese; and their children Delano and Aleta. Gabriele is also survived by his brothers Ernesto (Clara) Civitarese of Calgary; and Pasquale (Stella) of Italy; sisters Maria, Yolanda and Mafalda of Italy; sister-in-law Assunta Civitarese; and numerous nieces and nephews.
